Will I lose access to my land if I put an easement/agreement on it?
The rancher/owner will have the right to continue to use, occupy and enjoy their property to the fullest extent, subject to compliance with the terms of the agreement.
Are there specific areas in the province that the SSGF wants to focus their easements on?
We will accept all proposals but funding may direct the location of projects. Our primary area of interest is in the south west corner of Saskatchewan, in the mixed and short grass prairie. This area contains the Milk River Watershed, where 50% of the land base is still native prairie and over 75% is in perennial cover.
Can I start with a CA and move into a CE in the future?
Agreements can be a way of getting a taste of what a conservation easement might entail. You can move into holding both an agreement and easement on the land if the rancher is interested. We will work with you to determine what will work best for your operation. All agreements/easements are voluntary.
Will information regarding an agreement on my land be shared publicly?
All activities, cost and data will remain confidential and the release of any information specific to the agreement will be with full consent of the cooperating producer.
Does SSGF look after monitoring the land under agreements and easements?
Monitoring of environmental attributes will need to occur to validate outcomes of projects. We will work with SODCAP, other non-governmental organizations, academia and government organizations. These will be discussed during agreement inquiries as they can be dependent on agreement goals.
Who is eligible to participate in SSGF programs?
All agricultural producers in Saskatchewan are able to participate in projects. They can occur on private or crown lease land. Programs on crown lease land will require acknowledgment and consent from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture.
