Term Conservation Easements give you a chance to create a legacy for the next generation by protecting the native grasslands today, all while remaining in control of the land.
Generally conservation easements are held against the land title in perpetuity. We are exploring granting easements that for a set term. Minimum terms are set at 25 years, this gives us the ability to truly monitor habitat changes and the impact to species at risk. The landowner still has control of their land but there are some restrictions. These include no development, drainage alternation and no cultivation.
Grazing has been shown to positively impact and manipulate vegetative characteristics through alterations of timing, intensity and frequency and paying attention to basic grazing management principals.
Benefits of easements can come in many forms. They can give you access to resources and data regarding the health of your grasslands, the species that call them home and insight to how you can better manage your land to increase productivity of it.
The donation of a conservation easement may be viewed as a charitable gift by Canada Revenue Agency under the Ecological Gifts Program.
At the SSGF, we are different than other land conservation organizations. We focus on conserving rangelands primarily managed by cow-calf producers, we are the first and only Saskatchewan-based provincial land conservation organization and maintain a Board that is primarily agricultural producers. We work with ranchers to find the program that will best work for their operation
